I was never a big drinker or heavy partier, so what was my main addiction you may (or may not) ask ... AUTO RACING. I started out as an avid watcher and moved into being a doer. But that took time and money. Even at the beginners level. So at first I did things to get involved with the sport any way I could. It turned out that photography would be a ticket for me to get up close and personal with the top tiers of auto racing. I got trackside by being willing to work for nothing. Nothing except press credentials. And that was FANTASTIC for me. To be able to cruise the pits and paddock areas where the work was being done and then hold down a prime spot along the track guardrails was pure ecstasy.
I would love to show you some of my thousands of photos from that era, but I sold all of them to a collector. He has passed and his collection was acquired by The Revs Institute museum and library of historic automobiles. I am hoping they will find mine and share a couple with me.
My involvement with auto magazines expanded from race photography to writing stories, articles and special interest pieces. Mainly for Car & Driver Magazine. You will see much of that work in this gallery. For my racing life; jobs and races, see the "Racing" gallery.
